HUGHES, Joseph William

HUGHES, Joseph (full name Joseph William) Died 6th April 1920 aged 25. In 1911 he was living with his parents William and Annie of 36, Thompson Street, Guisborough. He is at rest in Guisborough Cemetery, Yorkshire.
Some notes from what remains of his Army record. He joined up on the 11th August 1915 aged 21 years and gave his name as Joseph William. He lived at 1, Allison Street, Guisborough with his parents and was employed as an Ironstone Miner. He served in France from the 24th June 1916 to 4th January 1919 as Private 131365, Royal Engineers, prior to his posting he was at No5, Depot, 24th Field Coy, Royal Engineers. He was discharged from the army at Chatham on the 12th February 1919 suffering with a Ruptured left ear drum caused by the blast from shell fire which happened approximately May 15th 1918. He was deaf.
