Harry Edwin MEFFEN. Private CH/13533, Royal Marines Light Infantry, Chatham Division on HMS Duncan. (Born 26th April 1885 as stated on Royal Marine section, Ancestry) Born 1887 to Harry Edwin Meffen and Emma nee Chandler. enlisted 23rd September 1902. Took his own life by gunshot (Suicide) 2nd July 1909 aged 24 (His memorial shows 5th July 1909 aged 24) on board HMS Duncan in Malta Harbour. His mother was informed of his death on the 5th July 1909. At rest in Plot B Grave 175, Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Malta Credit the following to Malta Family History.
Harry Edwin MEFFEN, Private, Royal Marines Light Infantry. An officer’s batman on board HMS Duncan, he shot himself during the late evening of Friday 2nd July 1909. He left a letter giving the reason for his actions. He was born in Yarmouth, Norfolk, on 26th April 1885, and enlisted 23rd September 1902. After basic training he was assigned to ‘B’ company in Chatham Division. Buried in Kalkara Naval Cemetery. His grave remained unmarked until 2004 when ‘Royal Marines in Foreign Fields, Malta, supplied one
