Second-Lieutenant Gerald Amato Gauci. (115560) Royal Malta Artillery, plus many others


Military Cross Citation.
This officer was in charge on a Heavy Anti-Aircraft position. On the 11 January during an attack several High Explosive bombs were dropped one of which exploded five yards from this position wounding this officer in the chin and neck, although shaken and in great pain he carried on with control of the guns, shouting out the necessary orders. He refused to receive first aid until the raid was over when he had to be helped to the R.A.P. (Regimental Aid Post) and subsequently admitted to hospital. The officer’s staunch devotion to duty and great display of coolness set a very high example to all the personnel in his command. After his return from hospital and during other deliberate attacks by the enemy on the position, he has always shown great initiative in dealing with the situation and his conduct has been an inspiration to all his men.
