Lance Corporal Frederick John Goss, Lance Corporal 5688 Royal Marine Light Infantry, Plymouth Division.
Born 12 August 1873 to Edward and Rebecca Tryphena Goss of Staverton, Totnes, Devon.
1881 with his parents and siblings in Staverton Village, Devon.
He died 12 May 1900 aged 27 years in Bighi Naval Hospital, Malta of phthisis. (Phthisis is due to ulceration of the lung.)

Enlisted 12 August 1891 at Newton Abbott, Devon and posted to Royal Marine Depot, South Deal, Kent. To the 31 December 1891
The ships he joined.
HMS Edgar 02 March 1893 to 30 September 1896, then shore duty.
He joined HMS Hibernia from 04 January 1898 to his death in Malta. He fell ill on board his ship which was moored in the Grand Harbour, Malta. He was taken to Bighi Naval Hospital where he died 12 May 1900 of phthisis. (Phthisis is due to ulceration of the lung.)
He was Orderly to the Admiral Superintendent and was very much respected by his superiors as also by his comrades. The funeral took place on Monday Afternoon with Naval honours in Bighi Naval Cemetery.
He is now at rest in one of the mass graves in Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Malta
