Frank Seymour BRADSHAW. Captain, 1st Somerset Light Infantry.

Born 4 December 1883 at Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset to Major Frank Boyd Bradshaw and Catherine Douglas Nunn. Great grandson of General Lawrence Bradshaw and nephew of Captain A Bradshaw of Newell House, Grimston Avenue, Folkestone. His father, who was Major in the Somerset Light Infantry, died of fever in the Burmese War 30 July 1886.

He joined the Somerset Light Infantry January 1904 and served in India till 1908. Promoted to Lieutenant June 1906, on returning to England he was stationed at Portland. 1911 he went to the Depot at Taunton. 1914 he re-joined the 1st Battalion at Colchester, promoted to temporary Captain, November 1914. He was in action at Le Cateau during the retirement and the subsequent advance to the Aisne and in the battle of the Marne. Slightly wounded 2 November 1914 and returned to duty 22 November of the month. 19 December his battalion attacked some Saxon trenches in front of Ploegsteert. His company was in the reserve but seeing Lieutenant Parr killed at the head of the platoon, he left his trench and took command of Mr Parr’s men. He was shot almost immediately and died in a few minutes.
