F099 Lucien David BROOKS Flight-Sergeant, Pilot, R/74800, Royal Canadian Air Force, 229 Squadron, RAF. Born 31 August 1920 to Frederick Thomas and Marie Augustine Brooks,nee Lettarve of Powell River, British Columbia, Canada. Died 25 April 1942 he was flying his Hawker Hurrican aircraft on air operations over Malta when he was attacked by a German aircraft over St Paul’s Baydown killing Sergeant Brooks


F099 Arthur Ernest CHARRON, Flight-Sergeant, R/54061, Royal Canadian Air Force attached to 148 Squadron, Royal Air Force. Born 11 May 1921 at Ottawa, Ontario to Andrew Ernest and Georgina Charron nee Reid of 400 McLeod Street, Ottawa. Husband of Doris Jane Charron of 84 Florence Street, Ottawa. On the 24 April 1942 during his leisure time he and a friend (Flt Sgt Ballinson) went to Valletta for the day. While they were an air raid had developed and the made their way to the nearest shelter which was in Old Bakery Street, Valletta which unfortunately received a direct hit from a high explosive bomb, both received severe concussion and injuries both died 25 April 1942 in 90th General Hospital, Imtarfa, Malta and laid to rest on the morning of the 27th at 10.00 hours


F099 Walter Thomas Douglas COLLINS, Leading Aircraftman 917643, Royal Air Force (VR), aged 24 years, the son of William and Louisa Elizabeth Collins, of Ewell, Surrey. Died 18th April 1942


F099 Douglas Frederick CORFE. Warrant Officer, Pilot, 810075, Royal Air Force, 229 Squadron. Born 24 August 1918 at Hoylake, Cheshire to Frederick and Charlotte Corfe, of Meols, Hoylake, Cheshire. On the 25 April 1942 he was flying a Hurricane aircraft being attacked by German aircraft fighters he went for cover between some hills and was shot at by friendly ground fire and crashed and was killed aged 24 years.

On 25th April 1942 Corfe, with five other Hurricanes, was sent to intercept Ju88's, Ju87's and Me109's over St Paul's Bay. He became separated from the other Hurricanes and was attacked by four Me109's. Corfe broke away and raced for cover between some hills. He was then hit by local ground fire, losing part of his wing. The Hurricane, BE708, crashed into rocks and exploded on impact at Marfa Ridge, Malta


F099 William Thomas FLOWER, Leading Aircraftman 1010438, Royal Air Force (VR), aged 28 years, the son of Thomas Sidney and Sussanah Flower, and husband of Gladys Flower, of Bordesley Green, Birmingham. Died 26th April 1942

F099 John Kenneth FULLALOVE, Sergeant, Pilot, 1058227, Royal Air Force (VR), 229 Squadron, aged 21 years, the son of Tom and Ethel Fullalove, of Fleetwood, Lancashire. Killed while flying his Hurricane aircraft in aerial combat on the 21st April 1942, shot down over Marsaskala, Malta.


F099 Frank James JEMMETT. Pilot-Officer, Pilot, 116904, Royal Air Force (VR), 601 Squadron. Born 1921 to James and Edith Clare Jemmett, of East Finchley, London. Died while flying a Spitfire 22nd April 1942 aged 21 years. He was shot down by enemy aircraft, crashed and burst into flames near Rabat, Malta. Wills and Admin, Ancestry. His residence was 10 Beech Drive, Fortis Green, Middlesex. His effects went to his father, a restauranteur.


F099 James Alfred KEATING, Gunner, 26 Defence Regiment, Royal Artillery, aged 20 years, the husband of Gladys Ethel Keating, Newtown, Cardiff. Died 26th April 1942


F099 Murray McEWEN, Leading Aircraftman 932286, Royal Air Force (VR), aged 21 years, the son of William Edward and Ethel Evelyn McEwen, of Norwich. Died 26th April 1942


F099 Alec MORIARTY, Aircraftman 2nd Class Royal Air Force, the son of Frank and Emma Jane Moriarty. Died 23rd April 1942 aged 19 years.
