Ernest COOKE. Lance Corporal 20867, 4th Grenadier Guards. Born 1893 to William and Elizabeth Cooke, nee Turton of Rostholme Bungalow, Askern Road, Bentley, Doncaster. 1901 he was residing with his parents and sister at 43 Chaucer Street, Ilkeston.
He fell in the battle of the Somme, 16 September 1916 aged 23 years. His mother was granted a war gratuity 13 March 1917, revised 15 September 1919.
Commemorated on a family memorial in Park Cemetery, Ilkeston, also on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
