Edward Nelson Walthall PEARSON. Private 78999, 1/7th Durham Light Infantry. formerly 88075 Yorkshire Regiment. Born 1899 at Ilkeston to Eli and Alice Beatrice Pearson of 5 Granby Street, Ilkeston. He joined the army 12 June 1917 at Derby, aged 19 years, occupation, warp hand. The following day he was posted 25th Yorkshire Regiment as private 88075. 3 January 1918 posted to the 5th Yorkshire Regiment. 6 January 1918 he was transferred to the Durham Light Infantry as private 78999. He embarked with his regiment to France 4 January 1918 and was killed in action in the field, 10 April 1918 aged 19 years after 17 days of arriving in France. His father was granted a war gratuity 8 August 1918 and he died 28 September 1918. His widowed mother was granted a war gratuity 28 September 1918, revised 18 December 1919.
Commemorated on his parents’ memorial in Park Cemetery, Ilkeston, Derbyshire and Ploegsteert Memorial, Hainaut, Belgium.
