Denis Smith was SSgt CQMS of 13 Ord Coy at Obernkirched where he was popular member of the Company. In 1986 or 87 he was involved in a car accident between Oberkirchen and Buckeburg. He was taken to BMH Rinteln and hospitalised. During the night he suffered a heart attack and attempts to revive him failed. I had known Denis for years since we were recruits and had served with him at the Apprentice college. As Admin Officer I had the task of officially identifying the body. His wife requested repatriation and a minibus full of troops from the Company including myself and the OC gave him a proper send off in full uniform.
