Extended Description
Lieutenant Everard Aloysius Lisle PHILLIPS VC. Bengal Native Infantry then 60th Rifles. Born 1835 died in Delhi 17th September 1857 aged 22. Victoria Cross 17th September 1857. Son of Ambrose March Phillips de LISLE and Laura nee CLIFFORD

On the desertion of the Bengal Infantry, he then joined the 60th Rifles. He performed many gallant deeds, and in the months before his death he was wounded three times. At the Siege of Delhi, he captured the Water Bastion with a small party and was killed in the streets on 17 September 1857. His death was recorded in the London Gazette on 18 September.
Ensign Phillipps was awarded the Victoria Cross fifty years after his death. His citation reads:
London Gazette, 21st October, 1859. V.C.
Ensign Everard Aloysius Lisle Phillipps, of the 11th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry, would have been recommended to Her Majesty for the decoration of the Victoria Cross, had he survived, for many gallant deeds which he performed during the Siege of Delhi, during which he was wounded three times. At the assault of that city he captured the Water Bastion with a small party of men, and was finally killed in the streets of Delhi on the 18th of September.

Lieutenant Rudolph Henry Edward March Phillipps de LISLE Royal Navy. Born 11th November 1892 died 1943 at Oxford aged 50. Son of Edwin Joseph Lisle March Phillipps de Lisle and Agnes Henrietta Ida nee Hope.
Wills and Admin. Ancestry. He lived at Chalfont Grove, Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire and died 17th August 1943 at Warneford Hospital, Oxford. His effects went to John Adrian Frederick March Phillips de Lisle, stoke broker.

Lieutenant Alexander Charles Nicholas March Phillipps de LISLE. 21st Squadron Royal Flying Corps Born 6th December 1896 died 20th November 1917 aged 20. Youngest son of the late Edwin Joseph Lisle March Phillipps de Lisle, M.P, D.L., F.S.A. and Agnes Henriette March Phillipps de Lisle. Native of Leicestershire. Wounded 1915 and 1916.
At rest in Dozinghem Military Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

Wills and Admin, Ancestry. He lived at South Hill Park Bracknell, Berkshire and died on the 25th September 1928 at Whyte Gates, St Georges Road, Old Stratford, Warwickshire. His effects went to John Adrian Frederick March Phillips de Lisle, articled clerk

Lieutenant Commander Rudolph Henry Edward March Phillipps de LISLE. Royal Navy Born 1859 killed at the battle of Abu Klea on the 17th January 1885 aged 31. Son of Edwin Joseph Lisle March Phillips de Lisle and Agnes Henrietta Ida Nee Hope. He served on HMS Britannia, Shannon, Alexandra his last ship in which he received a horrific death. His whole face cut clean off.

Lieutenant Edwin' Eddie' Joseph Lisle March Phillipps de LISLE. Born 13th June 1852 died 5th May 1920 aged 68. Son of Ambrose March Phillips de LISLE and Laura nee CLIFFORD. In 1901 he was living with his parents and siblings at Charnwood Lodge, Charley, Leicestershire.

This memorial plaque is at the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas, Staffordshire
