Born 19 January 1876 to Joseph and Eliza Stratton, nee McGookin at Greenwell Street Newtownards.
Husband of Edith J. Stratton, nee Carter who he married 25 July 1900 aged 24 years at St Anne’s Church Belfast Ireland. Occupation warehouseman, residing at 78 Excise Street, Belfast. His father at this time was a soldier. Irish 1901 census with his wife at 58 Surrey Street, Belfast Ireland, occupation block printer. Irish 1911 census with his wife and child at 59 Balfour Street Newtownards, same occupation, The family resided with his wife at 68, Balfour Street Newtownards.
2 October 1915 he made his Will which he wrote. “ In the event of my death I give all I posses to my dear wife Edith Stratton. D J Stratton CQMS No 57842 36th Divisional Signal Coy R.E. date 2 October 1915.
Died 27 February 1916 aged 41 years Bradford War Hospital, Bradford, Yorkshire.
At rest in Movilla Cemetery Newtownards County Down, Northern Ireland.

MILITARY FUNERAL IN NEWTOWNARDS.
Wednesday afternoon the funeral took place of Company Quartermaster D. J. Stratton, Royal Engineers, 36th (Ulster) Division, who had died at St. Luke’s War Hospital. Bradford, 27th ult. Military honours were accorded the remains, a firing party of the 20th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles, and the band of the 10th Royal Irish Fusiliers being present, in addition to the Boy Scouts of No. 2 Newtownards troop, of which the deceased had formerly been scoutmaster. The Rev. James Salters, M.A.. Presbyterian military chaplain, conducted a service at the graveside, after which the Rifles fired three volleys over the open grave.
