D565 WILLIAM GEORGE HUMPHREYS

D565 William George HUMPHREYS. Leading Seaman J53757 Royal Navy on HMS Ramillies. Born 13 January 1901 at Hatfield, Hertfordshire to John William and Rosetta Jane Humphreys, nee Mitchell. 1911 he was residing with his parents and siblings at 6 Ground Lane, Hatfield. The following extract is taken from Metropolitan Asylum Board, Training Ship Exmouth record book. He first enlisted aged 13 years as 217 on the 8 July 1914 to 23 May 1916 Serving on Training Ship Exmouth and HMS Impregnable at Devonport. He re-engaged 26 May 1916 on HMS Ganges occupation prior to enlistment was at HMS Exmouth as S.S.Boy. Died 9th June 1928 aged 27 years at Royal Naval Hospital Bighi, Malta of Pulmonary Tuberculosis. Memorial erected by his shipmates.
