D561 Gerald Augustus SHIRLEY. Stoker1st Class K64449, HMS Clematis. Born 11 May 1895 at Devonport, Devon to Lucy Shirley, single woman of 2 Pembroke Terrace, Torpoint. 1901 he was residing with step siblings, mother and his step father Thomas Henry William Rowse at 59 Fore Street, Torpoint. Enlisted 20 June 1913 on HMS Vivid II, occupation prior to enlistment grocers porter. Died 15th April 1928 aged 21 years at Royal Naval Hospital, Malta from injuries sustained by falling into the dock, may have been dry a dock. He was formerly Gunner 769 of the Royal Garrison Artillery, Territorials. Enlisted 10 February 1913 aged 17 years and 1 month. Resided at 2 Pembroke Terrace, Torpoint, Devon, occupation, labourer. He was discharged 20 June 1913 after 122 day having joined the Royal Navy.
At rest in Plot D Grave 561, Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Malta.
