A mark XIX Spitfire fitted with a late-model Griffon engine from a Shackleton maritime patrol aircraft, complete with the Shackleton's contra-rotating propellers! Naval variant of the Spitfire, the Seafire, did fly with contra-rotating propellers,
The Spitfire Mk III was a single prototype serving as a test bed for evaluating technical evolutions for the Spitfire line: clipped wings, more armor, new versions of the Merlin engine.

The Mk V looks like the first full production version that had clipped wing tips, this gave a better roll rate up to approx 20 000 Ft, and most Spitfires used in a ground attack roll had the clipped tips for better low level manoeuvrability.

on friday the 3 of june at 11:30 a spitfire flew over Liverpool heading towards southport it had clipped wings, and guess what i didn't have my camera with me:mad:

Yep Viking told me that he had seen a Spitty and a Hurricane fly over his house in Whitefield, Manchester. He says they were at about 75 Ft above him and guess what ?. He didnt have his camera either. DOH!!
