37 Bengal Native Infantry, Honourable East India Company husband of Eliza Ann who was born in Perlang, East Indies (British Subject) 1812

Lieutenant-Colonel John Herring, CB - 37th Bengal Native Infantry - killed 3rd September 1839.
Born 1789, son of Rev. Athanasius and Mary Herring. Murdered by tribesmen near Haidar Khel while escorting army pay to Kabul. Order of Durani 1840. Memorial at St. Mary the Virgin, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire
