Born 1896 to Frank and Lucy Cave, nee Cave of Ilkeston. 1901 residing with his parents and siblings at 33 Burr Lane, Ilkeston, Derbyshire. 1911 with his widowed father and siblings at 45 Mill Street, Ilkeston. Occupation, pony hewer underground at a colliery. Killed in action 23 August 1915 aged 19 years. His father was granted a war gratuity 20 December 1915. His brothers, William and James were granted a joint war gratuity 3 September 1919. Brother of Francis who fell in 1918.
Commemorated on his parents’ memorial in Park Cemetery, Ilkeston, Derbyshire. At rest in Lala Baba Cemetery, Turkey, including Gallipoli.
Francis CAVE. Private 91199, 2/7th Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire regiment. Born 1884 at Ilkeston to Frank and Lucy Cave, nee York of Ilkeston. 1901 residing with his parents and siblings at 33 Burr Lane, Ilkeston, Derbyshire, occupation, Boot dealer’s assistant. 1911 employed by Thomas Hallam, licenced victualler as barman in the Railway Inn, Kirby in Ashfield, Nottingham. Presumed killed in France 21 March 1918 aged 34 years. A joint war gratuity was granted to Thomas Halam and Edward Smith, 16 April 1920. Brother of Clarence who fell in 1915.
