Cephas GREGORY. Private 26179, 1st Garrison Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment). Born 1884 at Ilkeston to Abraham and Mary Gregory of Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Husband of Annie Victoria Gregory, nee Wells of 33, King Street, Ilkeston. He was married 10 June 1905 at Baptist Chapel, Ilkeston, Derbyshire. He joined the Sherwood Foresters 20 May 1915 at Mansfield, Derbyshire aged 31 years and 10 days, occupation, deputy coal miner. Resided with his family at 33 King Street, Ilkeston. 9 August 1915 he was posted to 1st Garrison Battalion, then posted to join the MEF (Mediterranean Expeditionary Force 2 October 1915. 1 November 1915 he fell ill and was admitted into No 5 Canadian Stationery Hospital, West Mudron suffering from valvular disease of the heart. 26 January 1916 invalided to Malta on Hospital Ship, Panama. 20 February 1916 invalided to England, same hospital ship. 22 April 1916 he was discharged from the army as being no longer physically fit for war service. Died 19 December 1920 aged 36 years.
