This was a test to see if the C-130 would be suitable as a COD aircraft. 29 touch-and-go landings, 21 unarrested full-stop landings and 21 unassisted take-offs were made on Forrestal at a number of different weights.

In the end it was decided that it was too large to be practical and the C-2 Greyhound was adopted instead.
