RINELLA CEMETERY, MALTA

Images of the old cemetery, which was located between Kalkara Naval Cemetery and Bighi Military Hospital. All remains removed and transferred to Kalkara Naval Cemetery into Mass Graves. Remains were of British Servicemen and their families from 1865 to 1916. Also of WW1 German Prisoners of War

Can anyone tell me what happened to the gravestones when the remains were moved from Rinella cemetary to Kalkara ?
I'm trying to locate the grave of George William Hearson died 1892. He was the governor of the Military Prison on Malta up to 1886. His burial record says he was buried in the Military Garrison.
Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks

Good morning
The cemetery at Rinella lay in disrepair for many years and was cleared in 1978, when all remains were transferred to a mass grave at Kalkara Military Cemetery. Some gravestones appear to have remained at Rinella but through time and abandonment these were all destroyed. The site was cleared and has now been built upon. Unfortunately records, in Malta, dating back in the 19th century are extremely hard to locate.
On Google maps there is a good ariel view of the old cemetery at Trejqet ic - Cimiterju. Sadly this has all gone now.
