HATHAWAY Albert Victor. Corporal 73117, 28th Canadian Infantry died 27 Aptil 1918 aged 20. Born on the 24 June 1893 Edward and Ellen Hathaway, of 45, Gilmore Street, Shaw Heath, Stockport, England. Native of Birmingham, England. At rest in Bellacourt Military Cemetery, Riviere, France.
Some notes from his army records. He joined the 28th Canadian Infantry on the 24 October 1914 at Moose Jaws, Canada. His occupation was a Loco engineer, his parents lived at 3 Station Road, Hazel Grove, Cheshire. He embarked Montreal 29 May 1915 for England on S.S. Northland Embarked for France 17 September 1915. At the front received shrapnel wounds to his arm 3 July 1916 at Boulogne, treated at No 10 General Hospital, Rouen, transferred to Auxiliary Military Hospital, The Red House, Cromer, on the 5 August 1916 to Canadian Convalescent Hospital, Woodcote Park, Wilmerhatch Lane, Epsom. The 19 August 1916 he was admitted to London War Hospital, Horton suffering from pustular eczema, (dermatitis). Discharged 25 October 1916 to Canadian Convalescent Hospital and discharged fit for duty for war service to C.C.A.G. 17 November 1916. He embarked for France 21 April 1917 and joined his unit in the field 13 May 1917.
Whilst at the front he was wounded in his right thigh 6 November 1917. Treated at No 3 Australian Casualty Clearing Station same day. On the 9 December 1917 transferred to No 4 General Hospital, Camiers, 13 November 1917, transferred on to No 6 Convalescent Depot , Etaples then to No 14 Convalescent Depot, Trouville. He was discharged fit for duty on the 30 November 1917 to Base Depot, Etaples. On the 27 April 1918 he was killed in action.
