I don't know but they could give France a bit of the cake (as a compensation) as it sure is a task to build alll those subs.

Also more astonishingly the originally intended sub is also available as a nuclear sub. Could have picked this option right away.

Anyway it is a sound decision and Chinas nervosity is proof of that.

Jesus Christ, I'm more impressed at the Chinese Build up. No wonder the US is looking at stronger alliances.

I'm not that impressed they take decades for everything, and the result is often mediocre at best, nevermind all that spying. Only efficient thing in China is Western style private industry (Teached by the West).

Heck the US builds Ford classes quicker than the PLAN is able to bring to bear a mini fleet of just modernised soviet design carriers.

You may also not confuse the military hardware with welding together tankers. China doesn't even have their own propulsion systems for civil ships. I always wonder on what engines their military ships run.

Their wheeled vehicles and APC use German Deutz engines through the usual JVs with NORINCO :)

Must come from the likes of WinGD they develop modern ship engines and let them be manufactured under license and with components partly provided by WinGD.

Do they already have a marine gas turbine which is useful and reliable? They are trying since the 1970s...

Thats the thing, they can reverse engineer if not already done some of the engines and will cost them less to produce. At the level now they have a formidable Navy, what more when they get their break throughs. Also what isnt counted there are the Shore based missiles and anti shipping aircraft.

Right now, their diesel submarines are running on german engines, now im pretty sure they already have contingencies on what hapens if the EU stops that supply. Either working on their own engines or just straight up copying them.

Couple that with their ability to mass manufacture then it is formidable.

Will they destroy the west in a full on fight? Nope. Will they bloody the nose of the west enough to make concessions... most likely.

Also, a lot of Western nations think buy selling Taiwan weaponry they are helping their cause, when all they are making is making these techs more accessible to mainland China. I still cant believe how the US thinks Taiwan is an ally.

Do take note that their build up happened in peace time. Imagine a Chinese war industry.

Well then they have a very long list of "unresolved issues" to work on.

Nothing that time and money cant solve... now if only the Germans stop selling them engines for their submarines haha. There's a little German in most weapons of war.

Washington seems to have decided, that the best military option right now is to rely on a Cold War-type alliance whose core will be its most trusted partners.

Hope they stay on that path. At some point it would be too late, we stupidly helped the CCP enough.

Totally incompatible systems, just imagine a World where the CCP rules.

Money can not buy everything
It can buy you enough german tech and engineers to power on through the next millennia... :D Never underestimate mans greed, with enough cash and leverage men will sell their own mothers.

I remember from past flights in Chengdu, seeing that sign on the building how in one area a tech start up can start from scratch to final establishment.

This building is for a partnership with EU scientists and engineers

I think not, not forever and I may add depending on development it may end quicker than some might expect.
